Needing Rescue

Anybody watch the show on Animal Planet last night about Rocket Dogs? Pali Boucher, the founder of the group is really amazing. She works 18-hour days, rescuing dogs from animal shelters, finding them temporary homes, and forever homes.

According to the show, she was homeless for most of her life. Then she got a dog named Leadbelly, and having to take care of him saved her. Through him, she found her purpose in life: to rescue animals who might otherwise not get a second chance. My heart broke, watching Pali try to rescue Kischka, a beautiful older Siberian Husky from the shelter. She luckily found a temporary home, and then a permanent home for the dog. Yay! (We have a Siberian Husky; I cannot imagine losing her.)

It must be hard for Pali to have to pass up dogs at the shelters. She said that she always goes to get just the dogs she was called about, but always ends up with one more. :) She did say that she learned that she cannot rescue EVERY animal; there are just too many. But she does what she can to save lives.

I wish every animal owner was as loving and caring as Pali. There would be fewer dogs needing rescue. Maybe there would be fewer people needing rescue as well.

Support your local animal shelters and rescues! Remember, donations are tax-deductible!
